Nuclear Installation Ageing and Life Extension

Plugging the Energy Gap

This one day event will focus on the issue of extending the life of existing nuclear facilities in order to address the developing energy gap which may occur in the next 10 to 15 years.  With speakers from both private industry and public bodies, this promises to be a highly informative and stimulating conference.

Hima-Sella will be on hand to discuss safety related shutdown and control systems which it has already installed in nuclear plants across the UK, and how the new technology it will be introducing later this year, is expected to lead to greater plant efficiency, increased safety and reduced operating costs.

Further details are available in the event brochure, available for download here.

Start Date: 05/06/2008
End Date: 05/06/2008
Location: UKAEA, Dounreay, Nr Thurso, Caithness, Scotland
Stand: A18
2008 Technology & Innovation Exhibition

Dounreay was designed to address the development and research of fast reactors, back in the mid 1950's - the DFR, PFR and DMTR, none of which remains operational today and all of which are due to be decommissioned within the next 30 years.

The site is currently undergoing a programme of decommissioning of it reactors, ancillary nuclear facilities and environemtal restoration.  The Dounreay forward programme is a significant milestone in the filed of nuclear decommissioning and could well be the most comprehensive blueprint for the restoration of a major nuclear site.

Hima-Sella will be on hand to discuss safety related shutdown and control systems which it has already installed in nuclear plants across the UK, and how the new technology it will be introducing later this year, is expected to lead to greater plant efficiency, increased safety and reduced operating costs.

The event is only open to valid pass holders and external visitors (by appointment).

Offshore Northern Seas - ONS 2008

Offshore Northern Seas serves as an international forum for communicating information on the petroleum industry in Norway. During its 30 years of life, ONS has become a leading and authoritative meeting place in the world of oil and gas.

Hima-Sella is exhibiting at ONS 2008, as part of the UK group, which is organised by the Energy Industries Council (EIC).

The Hima-Sella stand will be manned by Andy Tonge, Mike Hall and Ian Parry, all of whom have a wealth of experience and knowledge of design and delivery of safety and control systems.  You can talk to them about programmable or hardwired options, for both onshore and offshore applications.  Ian Parry is our Functional Safety Specialist and will be happy to discuss anything relating to the IEC 61508 standard and SIL rated systems.

Of particular interest will be the new HIMA HIMax safety system, recently launched at Interkama in Hanover, Germany.  Hima-Sella will be showcasing this brand new system and demonstrating how its capabilities are so flexible and adaptable to all the major DCS systems.

More details will follow shortly, meanwhile click here for a link to the official ONS website.

Instrumentation Scotland & Offshore Systems 2008

Instrumentation Scotland & Offshore Systems was launched in 1994, and takes place in the heart of the Offshore industry in Aberdeen, Scotland.

This is a biennial event which brings together the many companies who supply products and services specific to the offshore industry in addition to others representing processing, power generation, paper, distilling, water and waste, and marine engineering in north east Scotland.

Hima-Sella has a strong client base in and around Aberdeen, and is looking forward to meeting them at this key exhibition.

IET Systems Safety Conference

The 3rd IET International Conference on System Safety (System Safety 2008) will focus on the complicated issues associated with the requirement for safety professionals to make comprehensive and compelling safety case arguments in order to convince others that the risks associated with system hardware, software and human elements interacting within a specific context are tolerable.

This conference aims to address concerns specific to particular industry sectors but will also focus on cross sector issues such as the use of Safety Integrity Levels (SILs), the role and responsibility of Independent Safety Auditors (ISAs), changes in legislative and certification regimes, and human factors.  It aims to bring together a diverse range of people with a common interest in developing safe systems. The technical programme will contain a combination of tutorials, papers and keynote speakers, addressing the breadth of system safety engineering topics. The programme will be aimed at practitioners, focusing on industrial best practice, and will also address emerging research results of value to industry.
