Further to our involvement with the original Karsto Utbyggings Prosjekt (KUP), Hima-Sella has continued to work closely with Statoil and MW Kellogg to provide the next generation projects, NET1 and KEP 2005.
The Karsto Gas Processing Plant involves the subsea and subterranean transportation of oil and gas between the Karsto plant on the East coast of Norway and the Asgard Offshore oilfield. NET 1 involved the introduction of a new Emergency Shutdown System and High Integrity Pressure Protection System on the plant and was completed in September 2002.
The KEP 2005 (Karsto Expansion Project) comprises of additional systems logic using the HIMA Planar4 solid state technology, accompanying marshalling cabinets and interposing relay cabinets to cope with the increased throughput of the plant, which is now recognised as the largest in Europe.
Each of these solutions is used to control the safety functions over vast areas of the Train 100, Train 200, Train 400, Ethane, Propane, Sales Gas pipelines on the plant using a combination of telecommunications and satellite communications (TSAT).
